Pastor Matupit Darius, born on July 27, 1955, was a beacon of faith and creativity in Papua New Guinea (PNG). His life was a testament to the power of storytelling, both from the pulpit and through the lens of a camera.

Darius began his journey in ministry at Sonoma Adventist College, where he graduated with a diploma in theology in 1977. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at Divine Word Institute and Pacific Adventist University.

His early years in ministry were spent serving as a church pastor and chaplain. However, his unique talent for communication soon led him to the world of radio, where he became a voice for the Seventh-day Adventist Church on provincial and national radio stations.

Darius’ foray into film began with his role in the New Guinea Pidgin witnessing film “Tokautim Gutnius” (Sharing the Good News), produced by the Adventist Media Centre in 1981. His natural talent for acting shone through as he took on the role of Hiwi in the five-part health video series “Just a Little/Liklik” (1987-1991).

His passion for film and storytelling didn’t stop there. Darius went on to produce and direct several impactful films addressing critical social issues such as HIV/AIDS, child sex abuse, and domestic violence. His films were not only embraced by the Adventist Church but also by other faith-based organizations, government agencies, and public schools throughout PNG.

In recognition of his exceptional communication skills, Darius was appointed as Communication, Voice of Prophecy, and Religious Liberty director for Papua New Guinea Union Mission. During his tenure, he contributed numerous articles to various publications.

Pastor Matupit Darius passed away on November 14, 2014. His legacy lives on through his films and his contributions to the Adventist Church and the film industry in PNG. His life serves as an inspiration to many, reminding us of the power of faith and storytelling in touching lives and making a difference.
